The major interests are involved in genetic resource Exploration and molecular breeding in marine fishes, including
1. Marine fish genomics and exploitation of genomic resources;
2. Sex determination and sex control, and breeding by cell engineering；
3. Genome selection for high-yield and disease-resistant varieties;
4. Cell culture, Cryopreservation of sperm and embryos, Sperm Bank establishment.
Over 300 papers were published，of which more than 120 were indexed by SCI including many top journals, such as Nature Genetics, Genome Research et al, as the chief editor in three books and the major contributor in 28 patents.
Over 20 projects at national, provincial and ministerial-level were conducted, includingNaturalScienceFoundationofChina(key research project), 863, 973, Special Fund for Agro-scientific Research in the Public Interest et al..2006 obtained Second class prize of National Technological Invention Awards(The First contributor), 2010 obtained Second class prize of National Science-Technology Progress Prize (The Second contributor), two time of first-class and five times of second-class scientific and technical award at provincial and ministerial-level (The First contributor). Moreover, over 10 other rewards were obtained including 3rd China Young Science and Technology Award (1992), Middle and Young Outstanding Scientist Award granted by Ministry of Agriculture (1997), Talent Project of Hundred, Thousand and Ten-thousand awarded by Ministry of Personnel (1997), Qingdao Outstanding Professional and Technological talent awards (2004); Shandong Province Middle and Young Outstanding Scientist Award (2005) and special allowance of the State Council.
